Named 2004 National Indoor Football League(NIFL) Pacific Conference Offensive Player of the Week in weeks 4, 6, and 8.

A three-year starter, he led the conference in rushing and scoring the past three seasons, has been a first team PSAC-West All-Conference selection and this year was named the PSAC-West Offensive Player of the Year, and has been an All-Region player the past three seasons. We was named a Daktronics second team All-American and was named a Don Hansen Football Gazette first team All-American. He owns four all-time Cal U records (rushing yards, TDs, points, carries) and the top four and nine of the top ten single game rushing yards, including 307 yards and five TDs this season at Cheyney. Cates, a sports management major, also holds three career marks in the PSAC including rushing yards (5647 yds), rushing TDs (63) and total points (386), and is second on the career rushing attempts list, six carries behind the leader (Cates, 937).
